Who we are

The mission of the Arizona National Day of Prayer is to mobilize prayer in Arizona and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture.


The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, President Reagan set the first Thursday of May and the National Day of Prayer.

The Arizona National Day of Prayer Task Force is a project of the National Day of Prayer Committee of volunteers.

The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued throughout our history. Each year, the president and our governor signs a proclamation, encouraging Americans to pray on the first Thursday of May.

2 Chronicles 7:14: "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

The National Day of Prayer Arizona requires many hours from volunteers who are passionate about promoting unity among churches to pray on the first Thursday in May each year. Our funds help with ways to connect, train and coordinate volunteers to increase prayers sites in each county and city in Arizona. Any contribution is greatly appreciated and will go completely toward promoting prayer in out great state.
